VTW invests in a new measuring system

Versatile in use
With our new “FlexScan 22” scanning system - a system extension for our existing static, high-resolution and precise “Imager 5016” laser scanner we are now able to capture industrial facilities or buildings in a fraction of the time of a conventional (static) laser scan, but with the same precision.
The measurement technology is identical. The scanner is mounted on an IMU unit*, which can be moved either on a rolling tripod or by backpack. Scans are taken during movement. Another advantage is that the continuous movement of the scanner significantly reduces shadowing in the measurement data.

The image shows a direct comparison of a static scan (top) with the data from the mobile scan (bottom).
The typical stripe pattern created by the profile scan in motion is clearly visible. The static scan, on the other hand, produces a relatively homogeneous point cloud. The higher density of the mobile scan is also clearly visible.
*An inertial measurement unit (IMU) is a spatial combination of several inertial sensors such as acceleration sensors and angular rate sensors. It is the sensory measurement unit of an inertial navigation system (INS).
